4 Top Game-changing Tricks to Make Your Human Hair Topper Look More Natural.
If you’ve watched social media videos of people wearing toppers, you’ve probably noticed how seamlessly and beautifully they integrate…. until you try to do it yourself. Sadly, things on camera rarely look the same in real life. Add a dose of Photoshop and AI, and you can’t be certain of anything anymore. At Paula’s Wig Boutique, we have been making European hair toppers for 30 years and teaching clients how to get the most realistic integration using these four top tricks.
1. Back Combing
Also known as “teasing,” this step is a must not only to make your hairline more natural but also to ensure the hair of the topper connects with your bio hair nicely. It can take a little finessing and lots of practice, but this tip is a game-changer as long as you’re wearing your topper in the correct place.
2. Dry shampoo or hair spray.
Generally speaking, our clients who are looking for hair toppers in Toronto have very fine or thinning hair themselves. Getting the clips to grip on their hairline with the connecting toupee clip (even with backcombing) is sometimes not enough. A little spray of dry shampoo or hairspray is the answer. Either product gives just enough tack or stickiness to make backcombing more effective. Make sure you let the product dry before trying to backcomb.
3. Extra Small Toupee Clips
Most European hair toppers come with standard hardware. Toupee clips are heavy-duty, locking hair combs that make sure your hairpiece isn’t going anywhere. Although they do a good job securing the perimeter, they are overkill at the hairline. Our clientele who have purchased hair toppers in Toronto have benefitted from sewing micro clips along the hairline. The result is that the hair topper doesn’t lift and is considerably more comfortable.
4. Hair Fibres
Even with backcombing, using hairspray, and attaching with micro clips, some of our clients wearing European hair toppers still find their hairline too sparse-looking and not integrating satisfactorily. Hair fibres sparingly sprinkled into your bio hair and hairline is the next step to getting a natural hairline. Hair fibres are lightweight, teeny-tiny fibres made of keratin protein—the same keratin found in your hair that can be applied to your hair and scalp to mask the appearance of thinning hair or bald spots. Companies such as Toppik and Sure Thick offer convenient and inexpensive kits of hair fibres. Be sure to order the correct colour and use sparingly.
Good Luck!!
