Why We Don’t Believe a Wig Should Be Completely Finished When You Buy It

September 9, 2026

It may sound strange coming from a wig maker, but we don’t believe a beautiful wig should be completely finished before it meets the woman who is going to wear it.

Of course, the craftsmanship should be finished. The cap should be beautifully constructed, the hair carefully selected, the colour thoughtfully created and every detail of the piece made to our standards.

But the look shouldn’t necessarily be finished.

Because until we see the wig on you, we are still missing one of the most important parts of the design: you.

A Wig Is Not a Hat

Two women can put on exactly the same wig and look completely different.

The shape of your face, the height of your forehead, your natural hairline, your features, your colouring and even the way you carry yourself all influence how a wig should ultimately look.

A few millimetres at the hairline can make a difference. So can removing a little density around the face, changing the direction of the part, softening the front or cutting a few carefully placed pieces around the cheekbones.

These details may seem small, but they are often what separates a wig that simply looks beautiful from a wig that looks believable.

The Hairline Should Belong to the Woman

One of the first things we look at when fitting a wig is the hairline.

A factory can create a technically beautiful hairline, but it cannot see the woman who will eventually wear it.

Some women need softness around the temples. Others look better with slightly more openness around the face. The amount of density at the front can also dramatically change how natural a wig appears.

This is why we prefer to leave ourselves room for adjustment.

We aren’t trying to create the perfect hairline on a mannequin. We are trying to create the right hairline for you.

Density Is Personal

More hair doesn’t necessarily make a better wig.

In fact, too much hair is one of the quickest ways to make a wig look like a wig.

Natural hair has variation. There are areas where the scalp is more visible, areas with greater density and subtle irregularities that our eyes recognize as real.

When we fit a wig, we can evaluate where density should remain and where it may need to be softened.

The goal isn’t to give every woman the maximum amount of hair possible.

The goal is to give her the right amount of hair.

The Haircut Comes Last for a Reason

We can design the general shape of a wig before a client puts it on, but the final haircut is different.

A fringe that looks perfect on one woman may overwhelm another. Face-framing pieces need to relate to the jawline and cheekbones. Length needs to work with the neck, shoulders and proportions of the person wearing it.

Even the way the hair falls changes once the wig is sitting on an actual head rather than a block in our workshop.

That is why the final haircut isn’t simply an extra service at the end.

It is part of making the wig.

The Same Is True of Toppers

This becomes even more important with human hair toppers.

A topper has to interact with the client’s own biological hair. Colour, texture, density, length and movement all have to transition naturally from one to the other.

The finished result shouldn’t look like beautiful hair sitting on top of your own hair.

It should look like one head of hair.

That often requires careful cutting, blending, positioning and styling once the topper is actually on the client.

Custom Doesn’t Mean Choosing From a Menu

There is a tendency today to use the word “custom” very loosely.

Choose a colour. Choose a length. Choose a cap size. Choose a density.

But to us, customization isn’t simply choosing specifications before a wig is made.

True customization continues until the wig is sitting on the woman.

That is when we can see what needs to happen.

Sometimes the changes are significant. More often, they’re surprisingly subtle.

A little less density here.

A softer hairline there.

A slightly different part.

A few pieces shortened around the face.

And suddenly the wig stops looking like something she is wearing.

It simply looks like her hair.

The Final Ingredient Is the Woman

When women search for the best human hair wigs, Toronto has many options available to them. Hair quality and construction absolutely matter, but they are only part of what determines the final result.

The hands that finish the wig matter too.

After decades of working with wigs, we’ve learned that some of the most important decisions can’t be made until we see the person who will actually wear the piece.

So when a beautiful wig comes out of our workshop, we don’t necessarily consider it completely finished.

We consider it ready to meet its owner.

And only then can we make it hers.
